Celebrating

Oh to be 16 again! We celebrated a young friends 16th birthday a couple of weeks ago and what fun it was!! She is the craziest, most fun loving and sweetest 16 year old I know. I so would not have gone along with this when I turned 16 and so glad I didn't have anyone to make me!

So here's what happened. A friend and I got together earlier in the week and decided to surprise Katie with a night out, a scavenger hunt of sorts. Not so sure what it would look like, but knew she would have to collect something and would be dressed crazy. We sent her fun texts all day Wednesday of little hints about what would take place that evening.

So, we showed up at her house 8pm on Wednesday night (her actual bday) with a bag full of "goodies" and the video camera. She was immediately blind-folded and placed in a chair. She was then dressed up, make up done and gotten ready for a night out. She wasn't allowed to open her eyes until she was done! Here's the final results:

The sign reads" "I turned 16 today and all I got was this cheesy sign."
We then took her (i have to say she was willing to go, none of this was forced on her. totally fun!!) to her parents Faith Group (home Bible Study group) where she was sung happy birthday to by a room full of about 20 people. A couple of our college girls joined us at this time. We then went a visited another family friend's family where she had to sing herself happy birthday. It was here she had to begin her task of collecting 16 pennies, no more than 2 per person.

From there, we were off to Walmart!! Yep, she had to wonder the store in search of 16 pennies before we could leave. It was hilarious!! She asked several people, most of whom were happy enough to play along. (it was about 9:30 at this time) We got some funny reactions. I'm pretty sure you might find her on the people of Walmart sight. She was done in probably 15 minutes and from there we headed off to her favorite soft serve place, Cultivate.

Here I am with my partner in crime. All credit really goes to her!! She brought along her little girls dress up clothes for Katie to wear!

It was so much fun and so fun to see Katie play along!!

The following Friday night we had a great time celebrating at her party. She requested that several families from church come over to celebrate (i told you she was a cool girl!). Her parents arranged for 4 ladies from church to bless her as she heads into this next phase of life. It was such a precious time and special night for her. Since it was also Good Friday, we also had a time of worship. A great night!!

ps i'll have to get pictures up of her room. we also go to help re-decorate it as part of her bday celebration!! it looks so cool!!!
