Creating New Memories

Jared's parents have started cleaning out the garage and we have been the beneficiaries of many of Jared's childhood memories. This has included the famous "grabber," the new favorite: Legos, some tools and most recently this tent! Jared thinks he may have camped in it for the first time when he was Thomas' age!! I was a big doubter to the state of this tent 20+ years later, I was convinced it would be full of holes and un-able to stand. Well, I was wrong. It still stands strong! By memory, Jared was able to have the two of us set it up fairly easily in the back yard.

Thomas could not have been more happy. He spent the next two days running in and out of the tent and taking anyone who stopped by out to see his new tent. (Daddy kept reminding him that it was his, but Thomas wasn't so convinced.) The first thing he did was check to see what was out side all of the windows and made sure we did as well..

We all spent some quality family time in the tent. This is one of my favorite pics of us two. Look how grown-up and big boy Thomas looks!! His cheese face cracks me up!! Notice my 7 months preggo belly, yikes!!

We even got a great shot of Thomas and Jared! Look how tall Thomas is getting!

Thomas managed to convince us to eat dinner in the tent, which really wasn't that hard to do. It sounded like something that just had to be done! We had a great time making new Matlock family memories in the tent. Thomas requested Peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, chips and cookies, too please. It was a fun dinner to share in the tent. Everyone note that Jared is eating a PB&J as well, I think it's the second he has eaten since I've known him. He is one of the few people that doesn't like them!

The boys then decided to check out the stars. It melted my heart to see Thomas lay down just like Daddy, right next to him while eating a snack, just like daddy. They layed there pretending to see all sorts of stars. Such a sweet memory.

I'm sure this tent will now help our family make all sorts of new memories. I'm thinking it'll be a great thing for Daddy to take his two boys out for many camping weekends, not something mommy needs to do... right? Maybe if we get something cozy for me to sleep on and a shower and a toilet... either way, I can't wait!

great post! i was just talking to adam last night about setting up our (much smaller) tent in the back yard to sleep in. my rule is that all the kids have to be walking before i go camping next. though adam has big plans of taking nathan out on his own (or with friends) for some guy time. can't wait to read future posts about the matlock camping adventures. fyi: the persickes are GREAT camping companions.
