permanent marker, rubbing alchol and dishwashing detergent

Believe it or not, they go together! My 18month old welcomed me into the "Mother of a Toddler Club" yesturday by decorating my carpet with a permanent black marker he found. Yes, black permanent marker on my bedroom carpet. Of course it was right in the middle of the walkway, a spot where not even my creative furniture arrangements can cover up. I gasped, I did the dramatic "nooooo" and then I laughed. The practical side asked, "is this my fault?" The mother side asked, "is this a punishable offense. And then every bit of me asked, "how in the world can I get this up?" So, instead of running to the internet, calling my mom, I called a mother not to far removed from the toddler years!! After a similaar reaction to my own a suggestion was made, blot rubbing alchol and then dishwashing detergent. It disappeared right before my eyes! Those lines disappeared leaving beautifully clean carpet that stood out agains the dirty, high area of traffic carpet. That is until this morning... It was a miracle!! The marker is still gone, but the ultra-clean carpet now is looking a little bleached. I pulled out the carpet cleaning powder and it does look better... So I was excited to share this tip with you, but now I'm a little hesitant. My post-cleaning advice is, don't use much detergent. A damp rag with some worked in. When you are done, use a new damp rag to rinse the rest out. If you find yourself in this situation, it's a call you'll have to make. Permanent marker or a slightly bleached area? Which would you rather live with?!
Apparantly taking a picture next to something bad you did is punishment!! As soon as he saw the camera, the tears started.
