"Playing" HGTV

So, I must admit right off the bat, I watch way too much HGTV and get inspired to start way too many projects. Most of the projects just get filed away in the back of my brain for some other day, some we've actually done. I've always enjoyed watching them re-use, re-model and re-purpose people's furniture and this week Jared and I have actually been doing just that. The beginning of the year I saw a great built in desk unit that had two work spaces, with room for a computer and anything else you would need a desk for. That went on my list!! So Sunday the work began!! We bought an 8ft counter top and a drawer, the start, but how in the world would we hold it up. We looked into filing cabinets, which we would need two of and of course they had to be matching. Well, come to find out that would be around $200, for ugly ones. We sat in the office area staring, when it dawned on me, our current desk has two banks of the drawers, the bottom ones being big enough to hold files!! So, we (this time the we actually meaning me too) hauled it out to the garage, empty it of all it's contents and went to work. Jared and I pulled out all the screws and took it apart. I went to town with the electric sander (because on HGTV the women always get to use the power tools!!). Next we needed a bookshelf for the corner, just like the one in the picture. Well, that meant a new one, building one, or re-doing ours. It too would need to be sanded and painted to match the drawers. So, out to the garage that went. As of right now, we have 6 re-finished drawers, 2 re-finished drawer bases and a primed shelf (I'm tired of sanding and the finish just doesn't want to come off). I can't wait to share the finished project, hopefully it'll all come together. (I'm currently looking for something that needs sewing, because it's not truly like HGTV until Jared has something to sew!)
