First big "baby is coming" project!!

Well, as usual, my brain is running with all the projects that "need" to be done before baby gets here. I think my poor husband just might go crazy. He keeps asking where I think all the time and money is going to come from. One day at a time, babe! That's why I have prioritized the list according to need vrs want and expense. So, keep posted for more exciting things to come!!
We did get one project crossed off the list and it was a big one and a cheap one. Just a couple pieces of wood, a few bins and our creativity!!

The soon-to-be baby room is currently serving as a playroom, a storage room for extra bedding, baby stuff, sewing stuff, all things crafty and those things you can't get rid of but don't know what to do with. By July it has to be simply a baby room. We started by moving out all things crafty. My wonderful husband re-shelved our vacuum closet. I have two smallish shelves, one huge one and plenty of room at the bottom for vacuums and brooms. I used the purchased bins, unloaded all things crafty out of the dresser, leaving it almost empty and ready for baby stuff, and found all the other miscellaneous crafty supplies from all other hiding places through out the house! They are all neatly stored away in the vacuum closet. Label, sorted and stored!!

Well, after turning the vacuum/cleaning closet into a vacuum/craft closet, all the cleaning supplies had to be moved into the laundry room. So, under went project-spruce up the laundry room! Jared re-shelved the cabinets and now I can store all cleaning supplies and overflow pantry stuff! We also re-used leftover paint from the kitchen and then purchased some bright pinky-orange paint for the wall (there wasn't enough yellow). So, now the laundry room is nice and cheery and should leave me wanting to do lots of laundry for my family! : ) (It could happen)

So, that's one project down... too many left to do!! Will continue working on cleaning out that playroom!

Weekend Warriors: Master Bedroom Completion

It's done!! Well, almost! My family was wonderful enough to give Thomas their full attention this weekend. He had the joy of spending Friday through Sunday with his Grammy & Papa S. and Auntie & Woss in Roseville, while Jared and I stayed home and painted. It was great. We were able to get so much done and even see a movie! Now it's just up to me to add some final touches to the wall and get to sewing. I decided to make the pillow shames! I must be crazy!! It will save money, but as always, it will involve more work than planned. At least the painting is done! What do you think?

Weekend Warriors: The Master Bedroom

When we moved in we painted all the living areas and then pretty quickly moved on to Thomas' room, the hallway and even the hall bathroom. Some how our bedroom made it last on the list. We've made some improvements. I started by improving the closet, or so I thought. It's nice and long, so long it needed 3 sliding doors. I was so excited about that when we moved in. Well, that came with a problem, you could only get to about 2 feet of the closet at a time, there had to be a better solution. So, until we figured that out, I insisted that we take out one of the doors and send it off to the dump. After it was gone I looked into new doors.... well, that was a huge disappointment!! It was going to cost almost $1000 to replace them, for closet doors!! No way!! So, we kept just two leaving 3 feet of the messy closet always showing, not the best solution. Because of lack of time and resources, it stayed just the way it was.

When we finally found the time to get started in our room and I chose to start with the bathroom (the closet only led to frustration and just wasn't feeling any inspiration on the bedroom, which was probably caused by the high ceiling and weird closet...). We knocked down the ugly facade hiding the ugly florescent tubes and put up chandeliers and a ceiling light/fan. We painted the walls green and added some "art." Over all, I'm happy with the way it turned out and will eventually get to work on the ugly cabinets, hardware and flooring situation. But hey, paint is a cheap and quick solution.

Now, back to where I was originally going with this blog, the closet. We finally sat down and pulled some family in on the discussion and discussed. We had little to no money, two doors and a door in the floor right in the middle that has to be accessible just in case we need to get under the house. So, between the four of us, we came up with unloading J's dresser, moving him to mine, putting in shelves and using baskets for drawers. Once again, we're fairly happy with the results. It's usable space, the baskets are pretty and it opened up the room some!

Now, for the rest of the room.... We do have a plan and even a weekend planned to finish it. It will be wonderful to finally cover up all the paint splotches and paint tests that have graffitied my wall for months!! The white splotches use to have color under them as well! Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a tan paint color that is not to grey, pink, yellow or green!! yuck!! We'll get more pictures up when the bedroom is finished. I'll even put up before pictures : )
