Thomas is my soccer stud!! He is doing great. We've had a few weeks where he didn't want to go, even one where he cried when we got there, but as soon as he's out on the field he has a blast. I love watching him play. I love seeing his competitive side. I love seeing him try his hardest and really give it his all. However, my favorite part is totally un-sports related. I love hearing him laugh. Last time he kicked the ball, foot went right over the top and he went smack down on his bum and I could hear his laughter clear across the field. Another time the ball got taken from him and he took off after the kid with the happiest and silliest laugh. Makes my heart happy!
For the most part though, he's very serious. I can tell he's thinking about what he's doing. He'll frequently hang back not too far from the goal, making sure he positions himself between the ball and the goal. He's not to shy to go for the ball, but isn't so aggressive that he always gets it. He's scored several goals now, I think 5, and has stopped a few balls as the goalie.
Here he is in Week 4. He's the one with the red socks and blue hat.
He loves how they have to put their foot on the ball when they are waiting around and listening to coach.
Here he is heading straight for the goal
And here's sweet Benjamin! He loves to cheer for his big brother.
Yep, they are matching... Thomas' idea!
Week 6: again with the red socks!
Three of his biggest fans!
It's hard to see him here, but he's right in the middle running his heart out towards the goal.
Last week after practice I asked the coach how she thought he was doing. She encouraged us to keep it up. We'll keep him with these guys for another class or two just to build his confidence. She said he really gets it. Understands the point and what to do, which a lot of the other guys don't yet. Hmm, that made me proud! yes, i know she may have said that to all the other parents, but I'm taking it!!
