a few stories to get me started

I did try a blog on myspace and will just share it here, something to add to my page!

My husband and I are not "party people." We don't crave the spotlight or feel comfortable as the center of attention. So of course it was reasonable to think that our kids would be the same. Well, this weekend we were proved very wrong. Thomas, who is almost 15 months, surprised us. He has always been a social little person, comfortable in pretty much any situation we've introduced him to. Recently we've noticed just how much he enjoys music. There are several shows he loves, will drop whatever he is doing and run to the T.V. to dance to the music and with the characters on the screen. This weekend we witnessed him do this in front of a room full of family and strangers. My cousin James got married and it was on the dance floor at this wedding reception that he showed his skills. He was suppose to be asleep with the other children his age in the kiddie room, but alas he was not. Jared brought him down stylin' his stripped pj's and holding his favorite blue blankie. Jared and Thomas met me at the corner of the dance floor, where we all began to "bob" to the music. Thomas insisted on getting his feet on the floor. As soon as the touched, he, still carrying his blankie, began to sway to the music. He found the rythm and went with it! The song finished and he moved right into the next. By now he had a few spectators. The ones you would expect, my cousins, his aunties and great aunts, the people who we know and love, the ones you would expect to find this display amusing. As the next song began and he continued to "bop" and "bounce." He drew the attention of the strangers in the room and the reception videographer. I had people I hadn't met coming up to me making comments such as, "is that your son?" "this guy can move" "how adorable!" "I can't even move that good." "that is the cutest thing i've ever seen." My personal favorite part was when I stepped away to begin the good byes, knowing at any moment my child would crash and become the screaming toddler. After I finished I looked for my husband and son, expecting them to be close behind, but I found them on the otherside of the dance floor going to town with a new crowd. We conitnued to dance for another couple of songs, my son unwilling to leave the party. He went after the lights dancing on the floor and eventually began to get his feet moving as well. It truly was hilarious!

Now, I realize I am his mother and jared his father, and we were suppose to be impressed, but the attention of others left me beaming inside. I knew this was a moment I would always remember, a moment that will be shared at every chance I get to embarace him in the years to come. The moment, while it left me amused, proud and smiling, it also left me once again nervous about the unknown future. My cousin said what I was thinking best, "Watch out, you've got a party animal on your hands!" What will he do next!

So, if you see a bald little boy in stipped pj's flying around youtube (everything seems to make it there) he belongs to me! I'll do my best to get a video posted on myspace. Unfotunately he doesn't like the camera, so whenever my camera was going, he pretty much froze!
