Right now he is an absolute sponge. He's taking everything in and putting so much out. He's so excited to learn something new and then share it with someone. He's finally starting singing songs, he has his numbers down like a pro and is recognizing so many letters. It's amazing watching him learn!! While watching Thomas learn, I've learned a few things about him. One, he doesn't like doing something that might been seen as silly. He doesn't like to do whole body movements if he might look silly. The other part of that is he doesn't like to do anything until he's convinced he can do it right. For example, with songs, he'll quietly practice them over and over on his own and when he has it down then he'll start singing it on his own. We've been watching Wonder Pets lately and that's just what he did with the song. He'd mumble the lyrics then after a few times would sing along nice and loud. I'm interested to see how this trait develops. Right now it's fun to watch. The whole not looking silly thing is something he definitely gets from his dad! I don't care if I look silly!! Thomas just looks at me like I'm crazy when I dance around to a song. Maybe Benjamin will join in with me?!
I recently bought him his first school book and he loves it. Most days during one of Benjamin's nap times, he and I sit down at his table and get a few pages done. Than we sing some songs, practice letters or do a project. The other day he learned how to use scissors and I couldn't believe how well he did. He cut out 9 squares all by himself! Then he glued them down in the right spots on his worksheet. Here he is hard at work.
As he was working, I realized we needed somewhere to display his masterpiece. So, we strung up some yarn and attached things with clothespins! (thanks Laura for the reminder. I had done this in my classroom and forgotten all about it) From left to right you can see his name he wrote out in the little squares from the video below, the volcano he made out of the construction paper he cut up, the worksheet where he glued his squares and the paper where he copied his name after I wrote it down. He's showing you another thing he made with his cut up paper and then taped together.
