Thomas, despite my pleading and praying, has become an early riser. He can be heard rattling his little door knob and feet flopping down the hallway at 6:15 most mornings. I may have convinced him to stay put until 6:45, but that is more likely just the stuffy nose keeping him in bed. It is so early. I had become faithful at getting myself out of bed at 6 and was accomplishing a lot before he would appear between 7 and 7:40. Those days, I'm afraid, are long gone. However, I shouldn't complain, because he and I have had some sweet moments in those early hours. He now comes and crawls in bed with me and will snuggle for a few seconds before he asks for a drink or a snack or for Bob TV. We have enjoyed the morning sunshine, coffee in hand, and played in the dirt and pulled weeds. These are the little things that I need to savor before these early mornings turn into rushed times of racing out the door and off to school. These are the little things I know I will miss when he is grown and gone. So, Thank You Lord for my little boy and our sweet times early in the morning, and thank you for coffee to keep my eyes open. Perhaps next week I will try to get up before him, get back to those early morning times alone and then even get in a walk in the coolness of the morning before the summer heat starts.... or maybe not...
