The Elevator
One day while I was on vacation in Washington D.C. with the Kiles, we had to find somewhere to park. We finally found a parking garage and parked on the bottom level. We got out of the car and found an elevator. We climbed aboard the elevator with some strangers, it was no big deal. Once we were in the elevator we slowly went up, but it took us to the scariest room ever. It was a room that had a red, long carpet and mirrors down the hall, so we stayed inside and went up again. All of a sudden the elevator stopped!
After the elevator stopped we all started to panic. My mom was the worst, because she started to scratch the walls and breathe rapidly. I think that scared the strangers because they started to jump up and down so we could get the elevator back down to the next level. When that didn’t work right away, we started to hit the emergency button but it was out of order. This meant the entire elevator was not working.
Finally, the strangers had jumped long enough so that we got to the ground level. Once we got off, we realized that there was a “caution – out of order” sign on the door of the elevator. We felt so brainless but we were glad that we were still alive. Once we were at the bottom of the garage we started all over again. This time, we decided to take the stairs to get to our destination.
I will always remember this day because of how scary it was. I hope that if we go back to Washington D.C. and find a parking garage, we will not use the elevator. Finally, I am just thankful that we all made it out safely.

What a good memory! You can tell how much the experience affected her. I would have been scared too. I liked how she reflected at the end about the experience. Great essay!
